For my draft logo project I decided to create a woman lifting weights. I wanted to make it very clear that it was a woman, so I decided to add a ponytail to make it distinct. This idea relates to my topic because I am discussing fitness and the impact that it has on people. My design process was originally just to have a stick figure lifting weights, then as I explored illustrator I decided to add some gradient scales and make the picture more colorful with the pop of red. The red character is the most significant element I have in my design, because it is the focus. I made the character a red color to help my viewers see that the person is the main idea behind my logo.
My design process started off with my initial sketches. I looked at other logos for inspiration and then discovered the Plancast Penguin, which was one our readings. They discussed a “Directional shift”, and for them, it was bringing in a character. I thought to do the same so I added a character in mine. Then later added the gradient circle in the background to really tie everything together.
After creating my logo then re-reading our assignments this week, I think I will want to add some lettering to my photo. Jessica Hische, a San Fransisco designed that we got the opportunity to learn about, inspired me with her lettering and illustration. I want to take some of the concepts that she talked about and put it into my final draft for this project.
Adobe Illustrator was a little challenging for me so I decided to stick with the basics. I mainly used the rounded rectangle tool for most of my logo, creating the weights and my character. Then played around with color and the gradient scale. I did not use any photos from the web and all of these images are my own, I am thinking for my final draft I might use a photo of a stick figure from online to help it look more neat. I already have a few ideas in my head to improve my logo for the final draft. Thank you for reading!
Hi Emma!
I really like how basic your design is, yet how original it is! I really like how you made sure your figure was a woman, and that you made it look more like a person, and not a stick figure! I don’t have a lot that I think you need to change or add, but I have a suggestion! One thing that would add to your image, that you mentioned as well, would be to put words, or a phrase around your logo! I think this will be a good add to your logo! I really enjoyed the coloring off your overall logo, and it was a good color contrast between the overall look! I hope you end up with a great logo you love, and a great rest of the year in class!

I think it’s really cool and cute logo you can tell you put thought and effort into the logo I like the fact that you made sure to make it known that the lifter is a girl. A couple suggestions I have is I would try to add text or something a little more detailed to really come across what your topic is about because from the logo right now I get a little bit of an idea but I’m not exactly sure if it’s correct. The second suggestion I have is that if you add gradient to the weight then it will look like it’s a part of the logo a little bit more unless you’re trying to make it stand out a little bit more then keep it the way it is because it definitely stands out but your logo is super cool and cute can’t wait to see the final logo!

Hey Emma, I love the work you have done on your design for your fitness journey. I also love that you chose to make it obvious that it was a woman lifting the weights. It truly does make it unique. One thing I want to know is if I was just looking at this design of the logo I don’t know if it’s for a gym or just for fun. So, I would recommend adding words or something to help guide towards the understanding of your own fitness. The color choice is also very spot on for fitness and weightlifting.
